For the Clearfield High School golf program in Clearfield, Utah, building a competitive team is about more than simply improving scores. It’s about creating opportunities for students who may not have had the chance to discover golf until they reached high school.
Clearfield Golf has struggled near the bottom of its region for years, while neighboring programs often benefit from greater resources and students who have been introduced to the game at a much younger age. For many Clearfield golfers, their first real exposure to golf doesn’t come until their sophomore year of high school, putting them at a disadvantage from the very beginning.
Clearfield is working to change that.
After the school built a new auto shop, the former space became available for an indoor golf training facility. The program is now working to transform that room into an opportunity for its student-athletes to practice, learn and develop their game throughout the year.
With its athletic budget recently reduced, the school has turned to fundraising and community support to help make that vision possible. The goal isn't simply to create a better place to practice, it’s to build a program that students are proud to be part of and excited to compete for.
Building a successful golf program takes time, especially when students are often being introduced to the sport much later than their competitors. But Clearfield's coaches and supporters are committed to changing that trajectory and creating an environment where students can learn the game, develop their skills and take pride in representing their school.
Drive Fore The Future was happy to lend a hand as Clearfield begins working toward that goal. While our support was just one very small piece of the larger effort, we hope it helped give the program a little momentum as they work to develop their resources and build something lasting for future golfers.
We believe some of the most meaningful changes start with simply giving a program a nudge in the right direction.
Clearfield is taking those steps now, with a vision for a golf program that gives more students the opportunity to discover the game, compete with confidence and feel proud to be part of something they're helping build.
