Central Valley High School, a Title I school serving a large migrant population, is home to students who are as hardworking as they are determined. Yet for many, financial barriers make participation in competitive youth sports difficult, especially in golf, where equipment costs can be steep. As Coach William Bossard explained in his application, several players “do not have proper equipment or golf shoes,” despite their dedication to the sport. His hope was simply that the Drive Fore The Future Foundation might be able to assist “in any way.”
Title I status indicates that a significant share of the school’s families face economic hardship. National criteria for this designation often include high percentages of students who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch and districts with child poverty rates notably above the national median of roughly 13% among school-aged children. Schools serving large migrant communities also experience additional challenges, including limited access to youth sports programs and fewer resources available for equipment, travel, or training. While district-specific statistics were not provided publicly, Central Valley’s designation and Coach Bossard’s account clearly reflect a community where cost barriers are real and impactful.
This is where Drive Fore The Future chose to make a difference. The foundation stepped in to provide essential gear that will allow Central Valley’s golfers not just to participate, but to compete with dignity and confidence. The donation included six sand wedges, three full sets of clubs with bags, polos, golf shoes, and golf balls - all items that many players did not previously have access to.
For these students, the impact of this support extends far beyond the equipment itself. It means stepping onto the course prepared and proud. It means joining a team on equal footing with players from more affluent districts. And it means gaining access to the personal growth that sports foster: discipline, camaraderie, resilience, and the belief that their circumstances do not define their opportunities.
As Central Valley looks ahead to its 2026 spring season, the team will do so better equipped and better supported. Thanks to Drive Fore The Future, these young athletes now have the tools they need and the encouragement they deserve.
