Freedom High School in Tampa, Florida, has seen its golf program grow in exciting ways over the past few years. What started as just a handful of students trying out has now developed into full rosters for both the boys and girls teams. Coach Dan Sidwell has been part of that journey. While leading the boys program, he witnessed how new resources donated through Drive Fore The Future created momentum: “Getting the word out about our team grew interest in the program, where we’d have 5 guys at tryouts a few years ago, and this year the boys team had 18 come to try out.”
The girls team is now experiencing similar growth. In past seasons, participation was limited to just one or two players. This year, with new energy and support, the team fielded a lineup of eight players—and Coach Sidwell is stepping into a new role to guide them.
To help sustain that momentum, Drive Fore The Future provided 12 complete sets of women’s clubs and 24 dozen golf balls. In a district where golf programs receive minimal funding - often little more than a few dozen used balls and a polo every other year - these resources make it possible for more athletes to participate and feel part of a team.
As Coach Sidwell put it, “We were able to create lifelong memories, friendships, and a love for the game with the boys team, and I hope to do the same for the girls team.”
Drive Fore the Future is proud to support Freedom High School as they continue building opportunity, access, and community through golf.
